LFM改名为LGO(Leaders for Global Operations)正是在这样的背景下发生的。

Shanghai Jiao Tong University Announces the new name

of China Leaders for Global Operations Program

The SJTU China leaders For Manufacturing (CLFM) program announces its new name: China leaders For Global Operations (CLGO) on July 1st, , 2010. This name change reflects the expansion from broad understanding of manufacturing to encompass all aspects of operations. It as well echoes with the emerging trend of Globalized Operations.

Formerly, the CLFM program was a collaborative project authorized by MIT LFM program. Established in 1988, the LFM program enjoyed a good reputation in the U.S.A. by culturing leaders in the production and management fields for national manufacturing enterprises. However, LFM’s partner companies such as Cisco and Dell have been making transitions from traditional manufacturing companies to comprehensive companies in recent years. They no longer have their own manufacturing factories. Furthermore, they now more focus on product design and establishing and managing global supply chain to reach the goal of global operations. In conformance with this situation, LFM set up more curriculums related to global supply chain management to meet the real needs. It is under this background that LFM changed its name into LGO.

After the MIT LFM program’s change in 2009, the CLFM program did some evaluation form many aspects on its own name. Changing the name means two main signals. First, the new name emphasizes the cultivation of “high-end operation talents”. Operations include product design, production, purchasing, outsourcing, marketing and so on. Second, adding the concept of “global” reflects the new position of CLGO program aiming in educating high-end global operation talents. Actually, president of Honeywell (China and India) mentioned at MIT that global talent is one of the three shortages for China companies in competition of the global operations. Thus, CLGO has set its goal to educate high-end talents for China companies which look for more development in global operations.

In the last year, the CLFM program has been actively consulting the members from CLFM Governing Board including representatives from SJTU, MIT and CLFM partner companies plus faculty and students on the name changing issue. Finally, the CLFM Governing Board permitted that the CLFM program could change its name into CLGO on July 1st, 2010. The SJTU believes that the new identity will be very helpful in the program development in China and establishing a promising brand. Moreover, we hope the new identity will dispel the misunderstandings of non-traditional manufacturing companies, attract them to join in CLGO’s partner companies and develop more close cooperation with the CLGO program.

About the China Leaders for Global Operations Program

The CLGO program is China’s first full-time interdisciplinary dual-degree, graduate-level academic program (MBA and Master of Engineering). It was established by four colleges of SJTU—Antai college of Economics and Management, School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering, and School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. The program is authorized by MIT and has got support and cooperation from many famous international and China companies (including Amazon, Apple, Caterpillar, Cisco, China Longgong, Dell, Honeywell, Intel, Novartis, Tyco, and UTC). With the help of SJTU’s advantages in Engineering and Management, the CLGO program focuses on developing leaders in advanced manufacturing and global operations with high potential and best practice skills.
